Black Forest Cake (Schwarzwäldertorte)

Our cell group has been praying for the family members of Josephine, Joyce and Ada these days. One has recurrence of cancer. The other one suffered from a stroke since 1 September and hasn’t waken up at time of the writing.  He is breathing with the help of a machine.  The last is a youngster at the edge of going astray with the loss of mother and grandparents.   I made this cake to console the group members with lots of efforts on praying for the needed.  The big one for the group and a small one for my family.

The black forest cake is originated in Germany. It consisits of several layers.  Kirsch (a clear liquor distilled from tart cherries) is added to the cake.  It is decorated with additional whipped cream, chocolate shavings and cherries.

I wanted to be different.  The foundational recipe is from Tony Wong and supplemented with Coup Kitchen’s.

The rim was made of chocolate.  Unfortunately, it was still very hot in Hong Kong.  It was difficult to solidify and did not look perfect.  Never mind!

Friends loved it.   Hope those people in our prayer will recover very soon.
